My Magic Pill

by Ryan on October 16, 2012

As a health coach, I am constantly asked the question, “What do you eat? or “How do you eat? Are you Vegetarian or Vegan? Paleo?” I always hesitate before answering, because like you, I have struggled in the past with weight loss. I wanted a magic pill. I was a chronic dieter and was on the dieting roller coaster for quite some time. I would diet, lose weight, stop dieting, binge, gain the weight back and start all over. Good times.

I don’t like rules (but, I do like suggestions) and I don’t want to be rigid. With that said, I am also a perfectionist. Having to count calories, count points, cut carbohydrates and sip weight loss shakes makes me rigid because I must be perfect. Bad combination.

Here is what I can tell you. I love food. I eat real food. I like food that is simple to make and tastes delicious. There are days where I eat all raw and months where I eat all vegan. The basis of my plate is plant based, however I do allow myself wiggle room and may occasionally eat a little goat cheese, local eggs or a small amount of fish depending on the situation or how I feel. Ask me again in a year, my answer may be completely different.

I believe that we intuitively  know exactly what to eat and we know what food makes us feel good. The problem is we are too busy to pay attention and are constantly looking for convenience. In an on the go society, we have lost sight of  what truly feels good in our bodies and what we need to nourish our bodies to keep us healthy and strong.

But, I have good news. You can change. You can have more energy. You can lose weight. You can say goodbye to sugar cravings and the 3pm crash. You can sleep better. You can finally stop counting carbohydrates, calories and whatever else you are counting these days. You can be healthy and make awesome meals without spending hours in the kitchen.

Food isn’t supposed to be stressful.

Still Want to know my “magic pill”?

Food that is clean. Food that is simple. Food that is delicious. Food that makes me feel good.

So, tell me, what foods make you feel good?

xo,
Ryan

You know, I can SO relate. I too am a perfectionist, so as SOON as I get rigid rules, crash and burn time. Simple guidelines and wiggle room are the only things that work for me.

Foods that make me feel good: Fresh strawberries & cashews, yogurt with granola, andddd…Taco salad haha.
